Why You're Not Getting Interviews — 7 Resume Fixes

If you're applying and not hearing back, the resume is almost always the bottleneck. Here are the seven fixes that move the needle the most.

1. Your Summary is a mission statement, not a pitch

Replace it with a 3-line pitch: role + years + top 2 measurable wins.

2. Your bullets describe duties, not outcomes

'Responsible for managing X' tells a recruiter nothing. 'Grew X by 40% in 6 months' tells them everything.

3. You're not tailoring per role

One master resume, tailored per application.

4. Formatting is breaking the parser

Tables, columns, and text boxes are the top three parser-killers.

5. Missing top keywords from the JD

Add the top 5 missing keywords in context.

6. Too long, or too short

Under 5 years experience → 1 page. 5–15 years → 2 pages.

7. No proof-of-work links

A GitHub, portfolio, published writing, or LinkedIn with recommendations meaningfully increases response rates.
